Friday saw protests in many Moroccan cities in solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza, who have been subjected to an oppressive Israeli offensive for more than 250 days.

The Moroccan Organization for Advocating the Ummah Causes, a pro-Palestine group in Morocco, stated in a statement that 116 demonstrations had been planned in 48 different Moroccan towns.

According to the organization, the purpose of the rallies is to demonstrate Moroccan sympathy with the Palestinian people and cause.

Protests have been held in Morocco on a regular basis ever since the Israeli invasion of Gaza.

Since Hamas attacked Gaza on October 7, 2023, Israel has been under international criticism for its harsh onslaught, even in spite of a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire.

According to local health officials, since then, about 37,300 Palestinians have died in Gaza, the majority of whom were women and children, and over 85,000 more have been injured.

Large areas of Gaza were in ruins more than eight months into the Israeli-Gaza conflict, and there was a terrible shortage of food, potable water, and medical supplies.

The International Court of Justice has accused Israel of genocide and ordered Tel Aviv to immediately cease operations in Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians had sought safety from the fighting before it was attacked on May 6.
