Wolverhampton Wanderers captain Ruben Neves joined Saudi Pro League team Al-Hilal on Friday, reportedly for a club record sum.

“After six seasons at Molineux, Ruben Neves’ time with Wolves has come to an end, as he joins Saudi Pro League’s Al-Hilal on a permanent deal for a club record transfer fee,” Wolves announced in a statement.

According to Sky Sports, the Portuguese midfielder joined Al-Hilal from Wolves for £47 million ($59.7 million).

On Twitter, Al-Hilal greeted their new signing and stated that Neves, 26, had signed a deal with the team that would end in 2026.

From 2017 until 2023, Neves, a former Porto player, scored 30 goals in 253 games with the Wolves.

He also plays for Portugal, which won the 2019 UEFA Nations League.

Saudi Arabian clubs pursue famous players in Europe due to large spending in football.

N’Golo Kante, a former Chelsea midfielder, was recruited by Al-Ittihad earlier this week and will join his compatriot Karim Benzema, a long-time Real Madrid forward.
