Police in Mogadishu have arrested seven young men accused of carrying knives and engaging in reckless behavior inside public stadiums. The arrests come after videos of the incidents circulated widely on social media, sparking public concern and pushing authorities to act quickly.
According to police, the group was taken into custody at the Warta-Nabadda District Police Station after disturbing clips showed them brandishing knives in ways that put both themselves and others at risk. The footage alarmed many residents, who called for firm action to prevent such behavior in spaces meant for community activities and entertainment.
In a statement, police stressed that carrying knives or other harmful objects in stadiums and public gatherings is strictly prohibited. They warned that anyone found violating this rule will face legal consequences without exception. The authorities further explained that public spaces should remain safe for families, fans, and young people who gather to watch sports or attend events. Allowing dangerous acts, they said, threatens not only public safety but also the community’s trust in law enforcement and the sense of peace in the city.
Community members have also raised their voices, condemning such behavior and supporting police action. Many argue that young people should not misuse social media by glorifying violence or turning it into entertainment. Instead, they called on Somali youth to embrace positive activities that strengthen social bonds, such as sports, education, and community service.
Authorities have made it clear that future violations will not be tolerated. They urged parents, community leaders, and influencers to play a role in guiding young people toward safer, more constructive paths. The police emphasized that stadiums should remain places of joy, competition, and unity, not fear and violence.
This latest crackdown is part of broader efforts by Somali security forces to ensure safety in public areas across Mogadishu. By taking firm action against those who endanger others, the police hope to deter similar incidents and restore public confidence in shared spaces.
