According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, his country can assist Europe transition to a “green energy centre” and lessen its reliance on Russian gas.

Zelenskyy stated in a video message transmitted at the Ambrosetti Forum for Business in Cernobbio, northern Italy, “We can help stabilise energy consumption in surrounding and European countries, and this can lessen Russian pressure on Europe.”

Despite the challenges, he continued, “we can export energy equivalent to 8% of Italian needs so far. Ukraine has the potential to develop into a hub for green energy in Europe. The development of green hydrogen and renewable energy has enormous promise.

Zelenskyy also emphasised the significance of enabling the Zaporizhzhia nuclear facility to function safely and remain connected to the Ukrainian energy grid, adding that “Ukraine is ready to enhance electricity exports to EU nations.”

Concerns about a potential nuclear catastrophe have been raised after Russian and Ukrainian forces claimed responsibility for bombarding the plant in southern Ukraine.

In order to perform a mission to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant and conduct an unbiased evaluation of the situation, the International Atomic Energy Agency has been denied access to the plant’s crisis area, where Ukraine claims Russian troops are stationed.
