Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s special envoy, Dahir Mohamud Gelle, reaffirmed the robust ties between Algeria and Somalia during his visit to Algiers. Gelle, who met with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, described the bilateral relations as “strong and fraternal,” emphasizing Somalia’s commitment to maintaining and strengthening this partnership.

Gelle delivered a letter from the Somali president, addressing ways to enhance collaboration between the two nations. He highlighted their shared focus on key regional and international matters, underlining Somalia’s appreciation for Algeria’s support on various platforms.

Somalia is set to join the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member in 2025, an achievement Gelle described as a testament to the country’s regained global standing. He stated that this role will provide a unique opportunity for Somalia and Algeria to collaborate on Arab, Islamic, and African issues.
