    Cape Verde and Ivory Coast reach the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

    Somali Magazine – On Monday, Cape Verde and Ivory Coast advanced to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

    Cape Verde defeated Mauritania 1-0, while competition hosts Ivory Coast eliminated Senegal 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the round of 16.

    Cape Verde defeated Mauritania at Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium after Ryan Mendes scored a late penalty kick in the 88th minute.

    Habib Diallo scored Senegal’s goal in the fourth minute at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.

    Franck Kessie of the Ivory Coast scored a spot kick in the 86th minute to tie the game, and the game went into extra time and then a penalty shootout.

    Ivory Coast won the shootout 5-4 to advance to the quarterfinal round.

    The final two teams to advance to the quarterfinals will be determined on Tuesday by round of 16 matches between Mali and Burkina Faso, as well as Morocco and South Africa.
