Somali Magazine September 16,2023-Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in New York on Saturday to attend high-level meetings of the United Nations General Assembly’s 78th session.
Turkey’s UN envoy Sedat Onal, Ambassador to the United States Hasan Murat Mercan, and New York Consul General Reyhan Ozgur greeted Erdogan at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Among those accompanying him are first lady Emine Erdogan, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, Energy Minister Alpaslan Bayraktar, Trade Minister Omer Bolat, and National Intelligence Agency Director General Ibrahim Kalin.
Erdogan is set to speak at the session on Tuesday.
He is likely to underline the efforts Turkey has made, from development to humanitarian help, as well as its contributions to sustaining international peace and security while reestablishing global solidarity, in his speech.
“We will also highlight the critical role Türkiye plays in the face of current global challenges,” Erdogan said before leaving Istanbul.
On the fringes of the General Assembly, he will also meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and his counterparts.
Erdogan will also meet with members of the Turkish-American and associated groups, as well as officials from research organisations and American business executives.
More than 150 heads of state and government are anticipated to attend this year’s debate.
Erdogan’s activities are set to continue through Wednesday.
