In accordance with a directive issued by Villa Somalia on Sunday night, the Banadir region’s secretary-general and four deputy governors were chosen by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

Ali Yare Ali, a close friend of former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, was replaced by Mohamed Ahmed Diriye (Yabooh), who was nominated by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to serve as Mogadishu’s Deputy Mayor for security and political affairs.

For the last three years, Ali Yare Ali has been in charge.

Abdiaziz Osman Mohamed was named the Deputy Mayor of social affairs, and Issa Mohamud Gure was named the Deputy Mayor of administration and finance.

The President appointed Faisal Araale Afrah as the Secretary-General of the Banadir area, and Hassan Mohamed Jimale as the Deputy Mayor of Public Affairs.

The appointment was made just two days after the capital’s district commissioners were ousted as part of a citywide reorganization by Mogadishu’s new mayor, Sheikh Hussein Jim’ale.
