Somali Magazine – Mikhail Golovanov, the Russian Ambassador to Djibouti and Somalia, arrived in Mogadishu today to deliver a food relief ship to the Federal Government of Somalia. The ship, carrying 25 tons of Russian grain, is anticipated to arrive in Mogadishu in the coming days.

This is part of the Russian government’s initiative to help African countries dealing with food insecurity and humanitarian catastrophes. Somalia is the first recipient of this aid, which the Russian government declared a few months ago.

The Somali Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, Daud Aweis Jama, and the Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ European Department, Abdurahman Nur Mohamed (Diinaari), greeted the Ambassador at Mogadishu Airport. They thanked and appreciated the Russian government and people for their kind assistance and solidarity.

Thousands of Somali families in need of humanitarian assistance are scheduled to benefit from the food relief ship. The Russian government has also stated its intention to maintain humanitarian and development assistance to Somalia and other African countries.
