Inter Miami, a Major League Soccer (MLS) team in the United States, confirmed the signing of Argentine superstar Lionel Messi on Saturday.
The 36-year-old will remain with the Miami club until 2025, according to the release.
“I’m very excited to start this next step in my career with Inter Miami and in the United States,” Messi stated. “This is a fantastic opportunity, and we will continue to build this beautiful project together.” The aim is to work together to attain the goals we establish, and I’m excited to get started here in my new home.”
“I am honoured to welcome Leo Messi and his family to their new home,” Inter Miami president Jorge Mas remarked. “In 2018, we made a promise to build an ambitious club that would attract the world’s elite players.”
The 35-year-old 2022 FIFA World Cup champion joined PSG in 2021 and left on June 30 after his contract ended.
Messi had spent more than a decade with Barcelona before his two-season stay in Paris.
Messi, a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, helped PSG win two French Ligue 1 titles.
With Barcelona, he has won 10 Spanish La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League wins.
Inter Miami, which was created in 2018, is owned by former England and Manchester United player David Beckham.
