On Saturday, hosts Ivory Coast defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0 to begin off the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Seko Fofana scored from close range in the fourth minute, assisted by Franck Kessie.

In the 58th minute, Jean-Philippe Krasso’s excellent close-range shooting increased the Elephants’ lead at Abidjan’s Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara.

The 34th Africa Cup of Nations will end on February 11 in Abidjan.

Due to inclement weather in Ivory Coast, Africa’s football governing body had previously postponed the event until 2024.

The Round of 16 will begin on January 27, with the quarterfinal and semifinal phases beginning February 2 and 7, respectively.

Egypt is the most successful country in the event, having won seven titles, the last in 2010.

Ivory Coast has been crowned champion twice, in 1992 and 2015.
