Real Madrid will face Borussia Dortmund in the 2024 UEFA Champions League final in June, having defeated Bayern Munich 2-1 on Wednesday due to Spanish forward Joselu’s last-gasp double.

Visitors Bayern Munich broke the stalemate in the 68th minute at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Alphonso Davies of Canada scored a stunning goal by hitting the ball into the far corner, beating Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin. Bayern held a 1-0 advantage.

Several minutes later, Real Madrid’s equalizer was ruled off due to a VAR review after Nacho fouled Bayern player Joshua Kimmich.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid piled on the pressure, with Joselu scoring in the 88th minute to equalize the match after Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer made a mistake.

Joselu, a Real Madrid hero, scored again, this time with an easy finish following an Antonio Rudiger ball from the edge of the box. Real Madrid came back in the 91st minute, with the Santiago Bernabeu fans going insane.

Matthijs de Ligt scored a late goal for Bayern Munich, but it was disallowed for offside. Bayern players complained the referee because the position was not evaluated using VAR.

Real Madrid won 2-1 to advance to this season’s Champions League final in London’s Wembley Stadium on June 1.

Dortmund of the German Bundesliga defeated French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Tuesday to go to the final.

Dortmund will compete in their third Champions League final.

They previously reached the final in 2013, but were defeated 2-1 by Bayern Munich at Wembley. Dortmund, the 1997 Champions League winners, are aiming for a second title.

Real Madrid holds the tournament record with 14 titles, the most recent being in 2022, when the Spanish powerhouse defeated Liverpool 1-0 at the Stade de France.
