On Sunday, Lionel Messi gave three cheers for the assistance being provided to earthquake victims in Turkey.

The Argentine footballer urged his Instagram followers to donate to UNICEF, which is assisting earthquake-affected youngsters.

“These are terribly sad days for the hundreds of children and their families who have been touched by the tragic earthquakes in Turkey and Syria,” the 35-year-old tweeted, “My heart goes out to them. UNICEF has been working in the area to protect children since its inception. Your assistance is extremely valuable!”

Messi previously contributed his signature PSG jersey to Turkish international defender Merih Demiral’s campaign, which has auctioned off signed jerseys of great players to benefit earthquake victims.

According to the most recent government data, two severe earthquakes that shook southern Turkey this week killed almost 29,600 people.

The magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes that struck Kahramanmaras last Monday affected almost 13 million people in 10 provinces, including Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, and Sanliurfa.
