On Wednesday, Somalia’s bicameral MPs will meet at the Villa Hargeisa to elect the organizing committee for the presidential election, which is slated to take place later this month.

The Joint Presidential Election Commission, which will be made up of members of both the lower and upper chambers of parliament, is due to release the presidential election calendar and candidate qualifications today.

Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, the speaker of the Lower House of Parliament, presided over a security briefing attended by army officers on Tuesday, ahead of tomorrow’s joint session.

The speaker cautioned the army commanders not to get involved in politics and to follow his instructions on election security until the country’s president is elected.
