Napoli is closing in on their long-awaited Italian Serie A title with each passing week, as they defeated Empoli 2-0 away on Saturday to move 18 points clear of second-place Inter Milan.
Napoli took the lead in minute 17 thanks to an own goal by defender Ardian Ismajli.
In the 28th minute, Nigerian sensation Victor Osimhen converted a close-range goal to double the lead at Empoli. Osimhen’s 19th league goal of the season.
Napoli were down to ten men as Mario Rui was sent off for kicking Francesco Caputo.
Napoli has 65 points in 24 games and is 18 points ahead of Inter, who visits Bologna on Sunday.
The club from Naples last won the Italian league in 1990.
