Academic excellence received nationwide celebration in Mogadishu after PM Hamza Abdi Barre awarded top national exam student Mohamed Issa Dahir a full university scholarship during a formal reception honoring the country’s highest-achieving secondary school graduates. The Prime Minister hosted Mohamed Issa Dahir, a graduate of Howlwadaag School in the Banadir region who secured first place out of more than forty thousand candidates nationwide, alongside his mother, Safiyo Maalin Abdulle, at the Prime Minister’s office. During the ceremony, state officials confirmed that the government-funded scholarship will cover the complete costs of higher education at any university institution selected by the top student, whether within Somalia or abroad.

In addition to funding the top graduate’s university studies, Prime Minister Hamza announced that the federal government would grant Safiyo Maalin Abdulle a formal civil service position in recognition of her tireless maternal dedication and support throughout her son’s academic journey. Executive leadership praised her devotion as an inspiring model for parents across the country, noting that parental commitment remains fundamental to strengthening the nation’s human capital. The reception highlights broader executive efforts to incentivize academic performance, promote youth empowerment, and build a skilled domestic workforce capable of driving long-term socio-economic development.

The government honor follows the official release of the Grade 12 national examination results by Education Minister Farah Sheikh Abdulqadir, which confirmed that over forty thousand students successfully passed the standardized tests. As part of the national academic awards, federal authorities reiterated their pledge to fund university education for the top three overall performers nationwide, including high-achieving female candidates. Civic leaders and education advocates commended the federal government’s direct support for high-performing students, emphasizing that sustained institutional investment in public education infrastructure remains vital to expanding youth opportunities across all regions.
