Foreign Minister Abdisaid Muse was suspended by Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble on Tuesday. Muse’s letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which enabled a ship carrying illegal charcoal exported from Somalia to dock off the coast of Oman, was also invalidated by Prime Minister Roble.

Roble said the letter from the ministry violates national and international law and constitutes a threat to the country in a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The Prime Minister ordered the National Audit Office and security services to look into the incident and report back to the courts.

The declaration comes a day after the Prime Minister returned from the United Arab Emirates and updated the new President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on his discussions with the new leaders.

Abdisaid Muse did not respond to the Prime Minister’s allegations. Still, reports indicate that the Prime Minister’s working relationship with his foreign minister has not been good since former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo appointed him to replace Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud Abubakar as foreign minister.

Somalia’s former president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo handed over full power to his successor Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in a handover ceremony held at the presidential palace on Monday.
