On Tuesday, Somali police in Mogadishu detained a government tax collector police officer who brutally murdered Abubakar Mohamed Nourani, a prominent 65-year-old inhabitant of Mogadishu’s Hamarweyne region.

According to an eyewitness, Nourani was assassinated for only two thousand Somali shillings (0.2 US Dollars).

The deceased’s brother said that the soldier purposefully killed his brother so that he could pay the money, and he asked the government to bring the soldier to justice.

“At 1:20 p.m. today, the Banadir Regional Police detained a soldier from the Local Security Forces who killed Abubakar Mohamed Nuorani, 65, in the Hamarweyne,” Somali Police Spokesman Sadiq Adan Ali stated.

The accused individual will be arraigned at the Banadir Regional Court in the coming days, according to the spokeswoman.

Another government soldier killed a rickshaw driver named Ali Taliye at the Garasdeele checkpoint in the Middle Shabelle region’s Balcad area hours before the killings on Tuesday, but the soldier was eventually apprehended.
