    – Somalia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohamed Barre, met with his Egyptian counterpart, Ashraf Sobhy, on Sunday during the Council of Arab Ministers of Youth and Sports meeting in Saudi Arabia.

The ministers reviewed possibilities for partnership in youth and sports activities, as well as Somali youth involvement in the Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership program. The Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports is implementing the initiative in partnership with other African nations in order to build leadership abilities among African youth.

The third edition of the Nasser Fellowship was conducted in June 2022, with 150 youth leaders from Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) countries attending.

Youth leaders from Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, India, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Ecuador, Armenia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Costa Rica, Hungary, Chad, Sudan, South Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Gambia, Tunisia, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo attended the meeting.

Barre and Sobhy agreed to create a cooperation protocol that would encompass all areas of the year’s programs and projects. The protocol aims to assist Somali youth in taking use of Egyptian knowledge in building sports facilities.
