    Somali Army Identifies Key Al-Shabaab Leaders Killed in Middle Shabelle

    MOGADISHU, SOMALIA – February 22, 2025 – The Somali National Army (SNA) has announced the names of five senior Al-Shabaab leaders killed during recent military operations in the Middle Shabelle region. The operation, led by SNA Chief General Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, targeted key strongholds of the militant group.

    Key Figures Eliminated

    Among those killed was Hassan Abdiwahid Abdi Dhicisow, also known as Abdi Gurey, who served as the military leader for the Middle Shabelle, Galgaduud, and Mudug regions. Other notable casualties included Dahir Buhane, a commander of Al-Shabaab fighters, and Anas, the group’s general transport chief. Additionally, commanders Khalid Jiis and an unidentified senior militant leader were also eliminated.

    Operation Details

    The operation took place in the El-Ali Ahmed area and involved heavy fighting over the past two days. The SNA, supported by allied clan militias, successfully repelled coordinated attacks by Al-Shabaab militants on several villages, including El-Ali, Daaru Nicma, Ali Fooldheere, and Al Kawthar.

    Government’s Commitment

    The Somali government has reiterated its commitment to dismantling Al-Shabaab’s leadership and restoring stability in the region. The recent operation is part of a broader campaign to degrade the militant group’s capabilities and secure liberated areas.
