On Friday, the Somali American Social Service Association (SASSA) will celebrate Somalia Independence Day in downtown Rochester a day early.

On July 1, the country celebrate its 63rd year of independence from European powers. The event is hosted in Minneapolis every year, but this is the first time it has been held in Rochester.

From 4 to 8 p.m., SASSA will be celebrating Somali culture and bringing the Rochester community together at Peace Plaza. Traditional Somali dance, music, and food will be included at the event.
