Somali Magazine -The champion under-17 national football team of Somalia has returned home after winning the East and Central African (Cecafa) championship at a competition in Addis Abeba, the capital of Ethiopia.

On Saturday, the teenage Somalis beat their South Sudanese counterparts 3-1 in the final.

Since the nation’s civil war began in 1991, this is the first time a Somali football team has triumphed in an international match.

The victory has brought a rare sense of unity to a conflict-ridden nation.

Upon the team’s arrival in the capital city of Mogadishu, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud greeted them in the presidential palace.

In a Facebook post, he said, “You are a good example for the other Somali youth to follow for their country and to bring successes like this.”
