The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, received the European Union Ambassador to Somalia, Karin Johansson, in Mogadishu on Wednesday. The two leaders discussed the multifaceted cooperation between Somalia and the EU, as well as the Joint Operational Roadmap that sets the priorities for the next two years.

The Joint Operational Roadmap is the result of extensive consultations between Mogadishu and Brussels, and covers three main areas: inclusive politics and democratisation, security and stabilisation, and socio-economic growth.

PM Barre expressed his appreciation to the EU for its unwavering support to Somalia, especially in the fight against al-Shabaab and the provision of humanitarian and development assistance. He also emphasized the need to expedite the interventions towards newly liberated communities in the country.

Ambassador Johansson reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s road to peace, prosperity and socio-economic stability. She praised the Somali government’s efforts and progress in building a federal state and holding elections. She also stressed the importance of enhancing dialogue and cooperation among all Somali stakeholders.
