Joint Summit Announced
The summit aims to find solutions to the conflict involving the M23 rebels and the Congolese army.
Leadership and Participation
The summit will be hosted by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, with confirmed attendance from Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame. The meeting will be preceded by a ministerial meeting on Friday, followed by the Heads of State convening on Saturday. Other regional leaders, including President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, and President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia, have also confirmed their participation.

Objective of the Summit
The primary objective of the summit is to discuss ways to restore peace and normalcy in the eastern DRC. The recent escalation of violence has led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, with the M23 rebels seizing the provincial capital, Goma, and advancing towards Bukavu. The summit seeks to bring together regional leaders to find common ground and develop a coordinated approach to address the crisis.
International Support and Humanitarian Concerns
The United Nations and humanitarian organizations have called for an end to the violence and emphasized the need for immediate humanitarian assistance. The summit will also address the broader implications of the conflict on regional stability and security.
The joint summit of the SADC and EAC represents a significant step towards finding a lasting solution to the conflict in the eastern DRC. The participation of key regional leaders and the focus on humanitarian concerns highlight the urgency of the situation and the commitment to restoring peace in the region.
