    Taiwan contributes 300 tonnes of food to Somaliland.

    Taiwan’s Ambassador to Somaliland In a brief ceremony, Allen C. Lou () handed out 300 tonnes of rice and food provisions from Taiwan NGO Simply Help Foundation to Faisal Ali Sh. Mohamed, chair of Somaliland’s National Disaster Preparedness and Food Reserve Authority.

    According to a news statement from the Taiwan Representative Office in Somaliland, the mayor of Berbera, Abdishakur Mohamoud Hassan, and the governor of Sahil, Ali Abdi Abdilahi, were also there.

    Taiwan donated US$2 million (NT$6.4 million) to the Somaliland Ministry of Finance Development on August 28, with a portion of the funds utilised to purchase the food package. The provisions will help almost 10,000 families.

    Aside from humanitarian support, Taiwan continues to pursue development cooperation with Somaliland in the domains of healthcare, agriculture, information and communication technology, and education, demonstrating that the “Taiwan Model” is truly for the people, according to the Taiwan representative office. The office noted that it hopes to see more people benefit from timely assistance and that more international partners would join its efforts.

    Taiwan and Somaliland established reciprocal representative offices in Taipei and Hargeisa in 2020.
