Omar Mohamud Mohamed (Filish) has made to the list of one the Most Influential Somali Politicians of 2021, has been in Somalia’s politics for almost two decades. He served as MP from 2004 to 2016. He also held ministerial positions in the entrim governments of Somalia. Omar was appointed as the Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Banadir by the president of Somalia in Aug 2019.
Since his appointment, He introduced reform agenda for the city of Mogadishu. He successfully managed the devolution of Education and Primary Health Care services from the federal level to local in line with the federal system and national decentralization framework.
He succeeded to build 14 tarmac roads in Mogadishu distancing a total of 35.8 km which positively contributed security , transport and economic improvements.
Recently, for the first time his administration conducted wide range of local community consultations and produced Mogadishu Vision 2040 for achieving safer, cleaner and resilient Mogadishu.
