    ‘The moment has come,’ says Uruguayan defender Diego Godin, who is retiring.

    Uruguayan defender Diego Godin announced his retirement on Monday, completing a 20-year football career at the age of 37.

    On social media, he sent a video message with the tagline, “The time has come.” Thank you very much, football.”

    Veteran defender who formerly played for Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Villarreal. This season, he played for Velez Sarsfield in Argentina.

    He won two UEFA Europa League championships with Atletico Madrid in 2012 and 2018, as well as the Spanish La Liga title in 2014.

    Godin has the most Uruguay appearances (161) and has scored eight goals for the national team.
