The US has praised President Hassan Mohamud’s recent gathering of current and former Somali leaders.
The meeting, held in Mogadishu on July 12-13, provided an opportunity for Somali officials to discuss the country’s future and reach an agreement on how to proceed.
“The United States welcomes this meeting and commends President Mohamud for convening it,” the US Embassy in Somalia tweeted on Sunday (16 July). “The state-building process in Somalia necessitates broad consultations and ongoing dialogue.” The US remains a dedicated partner in this endeavour.”
Former presidents, prime ministers, and legislators were among the Somali dignitaries that attended the summit. Elections, constitutions, and the government system were among the topics covered by the participants.
The United States has long been a partner of Somalia. The United States has offered significant assistance to the Somali government in recent years, including security assistance, development assistance, and humanitarian help.
