Turkey has taken a significant step in its quest to become a major player in the global space race by advancing plans to build a rocket launch facility in Somalia. The project, which began construction in December 2024, marks a pivotal moment in the growing partnership between the two nations. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud revealed the development, emphasizing its potential to generate substantial revenue and create job opportunities for Somalia, a country striving to rebuild its economy after decades of conflict.

Turkey exported $386 million worth of goods, including pasta, while Somalia exported $2.5 million, primarily in oily seeds.
