Somali Magazine – The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has received a $50,000 donation from the Turkish Embassy in Somalia to assist the victims of the recent floods brought on by the El Nino rains.

At a ceremony on Wednesday in Mogadishu, Mr. Mohamud Macalin, the Chairman of the SoDMA, received the donation from Mr. Armağan Ardoğa, the Deputy Ambassador of Turkey.

Mr. Macalin expressed gratitude to the Turkish people and government for their unwavering and kind assistance to the Somali people, particularly during difficult times. He stated that the impacted populations would receive food, water, shelter, and medical care thanks to the donation.

According to Mr. Ardoğa, Turkey is determined to support Somalia as it works to overcome the obstacles of poverty, insecurity, and natural catastrophes. He stated that since 2011, Turkey had given humanitarian relief and development assistance to Somalia and would do so in the future.

Over 600,000 people have been displaced and over two million people have been affected by the floods nationwide, according to the SoDMA. The organisation has made a plea to the global world for increased assistance in order to meet the flood victims’ immediate needs.
