President Erdogan Meets Somali Leader Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Ankara, Pledging Continued Support for Stability and Growth

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently met with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Ankara. Their discussion focused on strengthening the bond between the two countries, with Türkiye reaffirming its commitment to supporting Somalia’s security, territorial unity, and economic growth.

The meeting took place at the Presidential Complex on Thursday, where President Erdogan made it clear that Türkiye values Somalia’s peace and stability. He assured President Mohamud that Türkiye would continue to assist in efforts to establish lasting stability, particularly in relation to Ethiopia. The conversation reinforced Türkiye’s role as a key ally to Somalia, offering both humanitarian and development support.

For many years, Türkiye has played an important role in helping Somalia in various ways. It has provided food and medical aid during crises, trained Somali forces, and invested in infrastructure projects to help rebuild the country. During the meeting, Erdogan reassured Somalia that Türkiye would remain dedicated to its sovereignty and unity, showing unwavering support in difficult times.

A significant topic of discussion between the two leaders was the fight against terrorism. Somalia has been struggling with extremist groups that threaten the safety of its citizens and overall stability. Erdogan promised that Türkiye would continue to stand by Somalia in combating these threats. The Turkish leader emphasized the need for stronger security cooperation between the two nations to ensure the safety of the Somali people.

The meeting also touched on economic, trade, and defense matters. Both leaders explored ways to increase business opportunities between their countries, aiming to create a stronger economic partnership. Türkiye has been actively involved in Somalia’s development, particularly in areas such as infrastructure, health, and education. By strengthening trade relations, Türkiye hopes to contribute even further to Somalia’s progress and stability.

Defense industry collaboration was another key point in their discussions. Türkiye has been working closely with Somalia in military training and security matters. With the growing threats in the region, both leaders agreed on the need to deepen their defense cooperation. This partnership would help Somalia build a stronger military and security force to tackle ongoing challenges.

Türkiye’s support for Somalia is part of a broader strategy in Africa, where it has been expanding its diplomatic, economic, and security ties. Over the past decade, Türkiye has increased its presence on the continent, forming alliances with several African nations. By supporting Somalia, Türkiye aims to promote regional stability while also strengthening its influence in the region.

This latest meeting between Erdogan and Mohamud reinforced the deep ties between Türkiye and Somalia. Both leaders expressed a commitment to working together in various sectors to ensure Somalia’s progress. Türkiye’s long-standing support has been crucial for Somalia’s recovery and development, and this partnership is expected to continue growing in the coming years.

As Somalia continues to face security and economic challenges, Türkiye’s involvement offers hope for a more stable and prosperous future. The meeting highlighted the strong friendship between the two nations and their shared goal of building a better Somalia. With Türkiye’s assistance, Somalia can continue to rebuild its institutions, improve security, and create more economic opportunities for its people.
