A Russian Su-34 fighter plane crashed on Tuesday during a training mission in Russia’s North Ossetia area in the North Caucasus, killing two pilots, according to a Defence Ministry statement. “In the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, a Russian Aerospace Forces Su-34 aircraft crashed in a mountainous terrain while on a planned training flight. The plane crashed in a lonely location. “The crew was killed,” the statement said.

The ministry recognised a technological fault as the preliminary reason of the disaster, and stated that a special commission is on the scene to investigate all aspects of the incident. Separately, Russian official media reported, citing an emergency services source, that two pilots were on board.
