    Two Somali shopkeepers were assassinated near Cape Town.

    According to Somali traders, two Somali shopkeepers were killed by gunmen in Capetown, South Africa, on Saturday.

    Abdikarim Abdullahi Mohamud and Abdullahi Dheere were killed by bandits who attacked their business in the Western Cape township of Gugulethu.

    The assailants fled the scene, and no arrests have been made in connection with the double homicide.

    South African police officers have stated that investigations are currently underway.

    Local Somali traders have collected the victims’ bodies and are preparing them for burial.

    Somali shopkeepers have frequently targeted deadly xenophobic attacks by rival native business owners in South Africa. Working in a spaza shop – a convenience store that sells basic groceries – after arriving in the country as economic migrants breeds resentment in a country where youth employment exceeds 35%.

    Two other Somali shopkeepers were killed in Western Cape in early June after being targeted in their respective shops.
    In those murders, no arrests have been made.
