President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda announced on Saturday that he will attend the next Russia-Africa Summit and Economic Forum in St. Petersburg.

“I will undoubtedly visit St. Petersburg in July. The political will is critical in this situation. That is not a matter of necessity, but of philosophy. The other things are just details as long as you believe in equality and brotherhood “Museveni told the Russian news agency TASS.

Museveni has spent the last decade improving communication and cooperation with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. The Kremlin is a major contributor of military equipment, technology, and knowledge transfer to Uganda.

“Whenever conflicts arise and some people want to take sides against Russians, we say these folks have been with us for more than 100 years.” “We have even forgiven invaders… the people who made us slaves,” Museveni stated during a recent visit to Uganda by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The second Russia-Africa Summit and Economic Forum is set to take place from July 26 to July 29. The inaugural summit was held in Sochi from October 22 to 24, 2019, with the slogan “For Peace, Security, and Growth.”

Uganda is one of 17 African countries who voted against condemning Russia’s conflict in Ukraine at the United Nations.
