    Ukraine’s football league has resumed.

    Because of Russia’s military engagement in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Premier League resumed play on Tuesday in only venues with bomb shelters.

    To be more secure, matches are played without spectators and are only staged in Kyiv or the west of the country.

    Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy advocated for the resumption of football to boost morale in the country ahead of Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24.

    Shakhtar Donetsk and Metalist Kharkiv drew 0-0 in the season opener at the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex in Kyiv.

    Russia declared war on Ukraine on February 24, one day before the start of the second half of the 2021-22 football season.
