Dr. Sayed Sadiq, UN Women’s Country Program Manager in Somalia, congratulated Hon. Khadijo Mohamed Diriye on her new position as Minister for Women and Human Rights Development (MoWHRD) in the Ministry in Vila Somalia, Mogadishu. Deputy Ministers Amina Hassan and Abdihakim Jimlale Aden attended the meeting.

Hon. Khadijo and Dr. Sadiq reviewed the main strategic priorities for women’s rights and gender equality in Somalia, specifically the building of Somalia’s legislative, policy, and institutional framework for supporting long-term peace and the preservation of women’s rights. The obstacles experienced by women during the drought, as well as the current humanitarian environment, are explored, and the need for resources to be allocated in order to provide timely assistance to displaced and drought-affected women and children, is identified.
