    Zelenskyy hopes to begin discussions between Ukraine and the EU this year.

    According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talks to join the EU are expected to begin this year.

    Zelenskyy hailed Roberta Metsola, the president of the European Parliament, for helping Ukraine and putting sanctions on Russia at a meeting in the city of Lviv and urged for further restrictions on Moscow.

    According to him, Ukraine is trying to adopt the European Commission’s recommendations as soon as feasible and start accession talks this year.

    Last June, the 27-nation group gave Ukraine candidate status, beginning a protracted legal process that might last years.
