The envoy of Taiwan in Somaliland, Allen Lou, attended a ceremony honoring the International Week of the Deaf and the distribution of wheelchairs to Somalilanders with physical disabilities.
According to the Taiwan Representative Office in Somaliland, the wheelchairs were donated by the Pu-Hsein Educational Foundation and Cao Zhong Zhi Foundation and would be used to help the less fortunate. According to Lou, Taiwan has always held the belief that “care, sympathy, and empathy transcend borders.”
The spokesperson further explained that there is a Somaliland proverb that states, “If a man donates anything from his pocket to help you, there is one man; if a man mediates from another person’s pocket to help you, there are two men.”
With like-minded partners, INGOs, and NGOs in Somaliland, Taiwan looks forward to investigating further potential for humanitarian and emergency cooperation in the future, Lou said.
2020 saw the establishment of representative offices on both sides, which signaled the start of deeper bilateral ties between Taiwan and Somaliland.
