Somali Magazine – Dr. Ali Haji Adam, Minister of Health and Social Welfare, officially opened the General Surgery Department at Demartino Hospital. To improve its capabilities, the department undertook substantial renovations, repairs, and obtained new equipment.
This particular institution had been severely damaged by a fire that broke out in the anesthesia equipment in March of 2023. The fire caused significant damage, destroying items and equipment in the impacted region.
Hospital directors, the Director of the National Institute of Health, the Secretary of the Council of Medical Professionals, and the Chairman of the Somali Doctors’ Association all attended the ceremony. The minister used the occasion to acknowledge committee members who played critical roles in restoring the hospital’s operating room and emergency departments.
Minister Ali Haji Adam expressed gratitude to the Association of Somali Doctors, private and governmental hospitals, and numerous institutions that came together to help Demartino Hospital recover.
