Sunday, February 20, 2022 – Somalia’s Minister of Petroleum, Abdirashid Mohamed Aden, has insisted that President Farmajo was aware of the agreement he signed with Coastline exploratation.

The Minister of Petroleum said that the agreement was penned on the 15th of this month and the Somali government will receive $ 7million signed by him and will be deposited in the central bank in a month.

“This file is kept secret by the president and I have been working together for a long time, in terms of oil law, in terms of entering into an agreement with oil companies,” he said.

The Minister of Petroleum said that the Petroleum Agreement indicates that oil will be drilled in the South West, Galmudug and Jubbaland regions, but did not say when the implementation of this agreement will begin.

President Farmajo last night strongly condemned the agreement, and denied any knowledge of it, saying that the Somali government had already stopped any agreement during the election process.

Prime Minister Roble also called the agreement illegal, calling it a national betrayal of public property.
