The Arab Parliament convened in Cairo, Egypt, to discuss the situation in Somalia, in particular the ICJ ruling, elections and security.
First, members of the Arab League’s parliament welcomed the decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which ruled in favor of Somalia in a maritime dispute with Kenya.
A statement from the Arab Parliament said they were pleased with Somalia’s victory in the long-running maritime dispute.
Mohamed Omar Dalha, a member of the Somali parliament who attended the conference, elaborated on the outcome of the conference and said that the parliamentarians of the Arab League countries congratulated Somalia.
He also pointed out that during the course of the case, they supported the Federal Government of Somalia.
Mohamed Omar Dalha, a member of the Somali parliament said “The decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to rule overwhelmingly in favour of Somalia in a dispute with our neighbor over the disputed territorial waters of Somalia, has been dragging on for some time, Somalia has always been supported by the Arab Parliament. He went on further to say “It means that the success of the Somali government and its people in reclaiming its territorial waters was something they really enjoyed and welcomed,” Somalia has always counted on the support of the Arab League and its members.
The statement comes as the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Thursday ruled in favor of Somalia over Kenya in the maritime boundary dispute, which began in 2014.
Dalha also added that the conference focused on elections and security, in particular how to help the Somali government.
