The Russian Foreign Ministry said Sunday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit various Latin American countries for the first time since the start of the Ukraine war.
According to the ministry, Lavrov will undertake an official visit to Brazil, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Cuba from April 17 to 21.
According to the statement, his meetings with the presidents and discussions with their foreign ministries aim to develop mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and the countries in political, commercial, economic, educational, cultural, and other spheres.
“The talks are scheduled to focus on issues of strengthening the current world’s legal framework, which is based on the United Nations Charter,” the ministry stated.
Latin America is a friendly region, one of the centers of the multipolar world’s construction, where Russia wishes to preserve communication and build constructive collaboration without external force, it added.
Lavrov’s latest official trip to Latin American countries was in 2020.
