UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres offered his condolences following a shooting at a university in Prague that killed more than a dozen people.
“The Secretary-General is shocked and saddened by today’s mass shooting at Prague’s Charles University.”
“He expresses his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes those injured a speedy and full recovery,” said spokesperson Stephane Dujarric in a statement.
Guterres also expressed his complete solidarity with the Czech people and administration.
The shooting at Charles University in central Prague killed at least 15 people and injured 24 more.
According to Police President Martin Vondrasek, the gunman was a 24-year-old student at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts. The shooter lived in a town 21 kilometers (13 miles) outside of Prague, and his father was discovered dead earlier today.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect was motivated by similar actions that occurred elsewhere, and he was not affiliated with any terrorist organization.
According to Vondrasek, the gunman’s “lifeless body” was discovered at the university’s Faculty of Arts, and he committed suicide after exchanging fire with police.
