Somali Magazine – Hamza Abdi Barre, Prime Minister of the Federal Government, and his Deputy, Salah Ahmed Jama, joined thousands of people from Benadir’s 17th district on Thursday in Mogadishu to protest the Ethiopian government’s action regarding Somalia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Demonstrators took to the main streets of the capital Mogadishu, from kelimeter 4 along Maka-al-mukarama road to Daljir-ka Dahsoon (the tomb), while federal and regional officials delivered speeches against the so-called Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Somaliland and Ethiopia in Addis Ababa on January 1st, 2024.
“Our sea is not for sale; Ethiopia must stop its aggression against our land and sea; Somalia belongs to Somalia,” protesters sang while brandishing placards in Somali, English, and Arabic.
Such demonstrations took place in Hargeysa, Burco, and Borama cities under Somaliland Administration, as well as in Mogadishu, where it hosted protests for the second time since the controversial MoU, which granted Ethiopia 20 kilometers of sea access a week earlier.
