The Somali Bureau of Standards (SOBS) has teamed up with Bureau Veritas, a global leader in testing and certification, to enhance consumer safety and product compliance in Somalia. This partnership is anchored in the implementation of the Consignment-Based Conformity Assessment (CBCA) system, a program designed to verify the quality and safety of imports into Somalia.
By leveraging Bureau Veritas’ extensive network of laboratories and global expertise, Somalia is addressing long-standing issues of counterfeit and substandard goods flooding its markets. Mrs. Hawo Ahmed Hassan, the Director General of SOBS, lauded the CBCA program as a transformative initiative for Somalia. “By partnering with Bureau Veritas, we are ensuring that products entering Somalia meet the highest international standards. This program strengthens our economy while safeguarding consumers from harmful or substandard products,” she stated.
The CBCA program includes a pre-export verification process where regulated goods are assessed before shipment to ensure compliance with Somalia’s requirements. Importers who fail to secure a Certificate of Conformity (COC) will face destination inspections and penalties for non-compliance.
