Former U.S. President promises military action against terrorists trying to gain a foothold in Somalia, calls for unity with Somali people to stop Houthi influence
Former U.S. President Donald Trump made strong comments on Sunday about fighting terrorism in Somalia. He said that the United States would not allow terrorists to hide among the Somali people. In particular, he mentioned the Houthis, a rebel group from Yemen, who have been attacking ships linked to Israel in support of Palestinians in Gaza.
Trump posted on social media saying, “We will support the Somali people. They should not allow the Houthis to take hold in their country, which the Houthis are trying to do. We want to end terrorism and bring peace and success to Somalia.”
Somalia is located in East Africa, in a region known as the Horn of Africa. It lies just across the Gulf of Aden from Yemen, making it geographically close to where the Houthis operate. This has raised concerns that the Houthis might try to spread their influence into Somalia.
Trump made it clear that he believes the terrorists will not succeed in hiding. He added, “It’s time for the terrorists to run and hide, but it won’t help them. Our soldiers, the best in the world, will find them and bring them to justice quickly.”
He also spoke about giving more authority to the U.S. military, referring to the men and women in uniform as “Warfighters.” He said he had recently given them more power to do their jobs—just like he did during his first term as president when the U.S. military went after the ISIS group.
Trump brought up General Daniel Caine, who he said played a big role in defeating ISIS. According to Trump, Caine helped lead a military operation that destroyed the terrorist group in just three weeks. Trump recently named Caine as the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff—the top military officer in the country.
Trump said, “I just empowered our Warfighters again, just like I did during the fight against ISIS (also known as Daesh). They were totally wiped out in three weeks under the leadership of General Daniel Caine.”
He also recalled a speech from 2018 during his first term as president. At the time, he claimed General Caine had told him that ISIS could be defeated in just one week, showing Trump’s belief in quick and powerful military action.
Trump has often used tough language when talking about terrorism, and this latest statement continues that pattern. He is making it clear that he wants to stop groups like the Houthis from expanding their operations, especially in Somalia.
These comments come at a time when tensions are high in the region. The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have been attacking ships in the Red Sea as a way to support Gaza during the ongoing conflict with Israel. This has caused international concerns, especially for trade and regional security.
Trump’s message is aimed both at the Somali people and the American public. To Somalis, he is saying the U.S. stands with them, but also warning them not to let terrorists settle in their country. To Americans, he is showing that he remains committed to fighting terrorism and keeping the country safe.
In summary, Trump is calling for strong action against terrorists in Somalia, especially the Houthis, and is promising to use America’s military strength to protect U.S. interests and help bring stability to the region.
