State-run Somali National TV announced on Sunday that a group of Somali police officers who had finished a training course in Djibouti had returned to Mogadishu.
The policemen were greeted at the airport by Police Commissioner General Abdi Hassan Mohamed Hijar, who revealed that instructors from Djibouti and Italy jointly led the training.
According to Mr. Hijar, “the training was held through cooperative efforts of the governments of Italy, Djibouti, and Somalia,” adding that the Italian instructors went to Mogadishu with the officers.
Police officers would join the conflict against al-Shabab, according to Mr. Hijar.
According to the state TV, this was the 17th group of police officers to complete their training in Djibouti and then return to their home county.
