According to a statement, one of Africa’s most prominent colleges has prohibited people attending its graduation ceremony from carrying phones, cameras, or video cameras.

Makerere University in Uganda will begin a five-day graduation ceremony on Monday at its Freedom Square.

There will be a total of 13,221 graduates, with each entitled to invite only two guests.

Cameras were not permitted in the graduation square for unknown reasons, while other goods forbidden from the ceremony included alcohol, cigarettes, tinned meals, and bottled drinks.

“A complete list of forbidden objects has been placed in the graduation invitation package that is delivered to the graduands and invited guests,” stated Prof Patrick Mangeni, chair of the ceremonies committee.

First Lady Janet Museveni, who is also the minister of basic education, is expected to grace the ceremony on Monday.
