– On Tuesday night, a young man was shot and killed in front of his home in Beledweyne, raising questions about a recent spike in violence in the center of the Hiraan region.
The victim, only known as Osama, was watching a video on his cell phone when two armed assailants approached him in the Koshin district’s Kutiimbo neighborhood. The attackers, who were characterized by witnesses as robbers, reportedly watched the young man for a while before attacking him.
The shooters fled the site after the incident, and no one has been taken into custody. The incident and the rise in violent robberies, particularly those involving cell phones, in Beledweyne neighborhoods have not yet been addressed by the local security forces.
