Reports are emerging of an attack by Al-Shabaab militants last night in the town of Afgoye in the Lower Shabelle region of Southwestern Somalia.

Al-Shabaab fighters have reportedly targeted a government checkpoint in the area.

Reports also say that a fierce battle took place there, which resulted in casualties including three deaths and several injuries.

Al-Shabaab militants have claimed responsibility for the attack, which killed  three in Afgoye town.
